The Real Thing

Too many numbers,
Too many tasks,
Too many nights of lonely hopes,
Too many masks,
Too many bargains found along the way,
Bargains distract, they please you for a day.
And still you don't see what it was
That you’ve lost

The real thing,
You didn't understand
The real thing,
You’ve held it in your hand.
You looked and it as something
From another day.
The real thing
Slipped away.

The clock is ticking
And a day isn't long.
You try to make good plans,
But some things turn out wrong.
Your calendar pages are running out of room.
You try to find time for those you love,
But time flies by so soon.
And still you don't see when it was
That you’ve lost

The real thing,
You didn't understand
The real thing,
You’ve held it in your hand.
You looked and it as something
From another day.
The real thing
Slipped away.

Ever since you left me I've been alone
All those times without your love, still it lingers on – and on –

The real thing,
I didn't understand
The real thing,
I’ve held it in my hand
I looked at it as something
For another day.
The real thing
Slipped away.
