Itís a Rat Race

Seven in the morning,
You kick at the alarm.
Crawl into the shower,
A towel on your arm.

You open the shade,
But you cannot stand the sun.
Then you check your watch again.
You know, youíve gotta run.

Itís a Rat Race Ė

Subway is crowded,
Nothing you can do.
Someone steps on your toe,
Someone screams at you.

You want some coffee,
But youíre short a dime.
Then you run again,
Just to be on time.

Itís a Rat Race Ė

Monday is worst,
Tuesdayís a bore,
Always doing work
From the day before.

The list gets longer as
You add another chore.

Doing overtime,
But thereís always more.

Itís a Rat Race Ė

Friday is party time.
You go on a date,
Take another shower,
Even though itís late.

You pick up the phone
While youíre soaking wet.
Someone tries to sell a bridge to
Get you more in debt.

Itís a Rat Race Ė
A Rat Race Ė
You better run, you better run.

At night a dream
Is bothering you:
A big, fat rat
Is staring at you,

ďIím the boss,
Donít you know your place.
Iíve got you trained,
Youíre running my race.
Itís a Rat Race Ėď

Itís a Rat Race.
Each and every day.
It's a Rat Race,
Come, get your pay.
It's a Rat Race,
Each and every day.
You better run, you better run.

Itís a Rat Race,
It feels like a maze.
Itís a Rat Race,
Donít you lose your place.
Itís a Rat Race,
Keep up the pace.
You better run, you better run.

Itís a Rat Race.

Each and every day,
It's a Rat Race,
Come, get your pay.
It's a Rat Race,
Each and every day
You better run, you better run.

Itís a Rat Race.
